About Rebecca Olkowski
I've been a consultant and leader in direct sales for over 10 years. I absolutely love what I do. Still happily in the trenches, I consider myself to be an observer of the direct sales industry rather than a coach or trainer.
Tip: Your best coach is someone in your company who has built a large team, is willing to work with you and resonates with your personal definition of success .
My goal is to provide you with the best information possible from top earners, success masters, and millionaires, to build your Inner Pizazz , and move you forward in your business.
My journey has been a huge learning experience especially since I came from an artistic background rather than a business background. I've spent almost 30 years as an actor and voice over artist for cartoons, television and feature films. I believe my acting experience has given me a unique prospective on attraction marketing and developing your "Inner Pizazz."
As an actor, you would think I would have been primed for my experience in direct sales. Actors experience rejection frequently, but their passion drives them to keep going even if they have to wait tables or juggle on the Venice boardwalk. However, I was also very shy. Did you know that many top actors are shy? I guess getting up in front of people and performing is a way to work through that shyness. To make matters worse, I was blessed with an extremely young sounding voice and specialize in voicing little kids. Because of that, I always felt horribly uncomfortable talking on the phone. I believed that no one would ever take me seriously.
So, why did I decide to go into direct sales? Well, to tell the truth, I always thought that doing home parties was kind of corny. I live in LA, and sometimes we can be awfully snooty. But, life happened and drastically changed my mind. Here I was. . . married with 2 kids, enjoying doing voice overs. My husband also worked in the film industry. In 2000 he was tragically diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. I found myself realizing that I was about to become the sole support of my two children and really didn't know how to do anything except act. It was terrifying! I had never worked in an office and couldn't see myself going back to waiting tables. Most importantly, I wanted to be able to be there for my two kids who were then 11 and 13.
I was introduced to direct sales by a friend who had just signed up with a very highly respected company. She wanted to practice doing her demonstration on me and I agreed. Well, mostly because I had made her come to a demo of something I had tried but given up on. I was so impressed with what she had to say . . . .actually she just read from a flip chart . . . I decided to give it a try myself. In the meantime, I was spending time taking my husband to doctor's appointments and shuttling kid's back and forth to school and sports activities. I was still doing voice overs, writing scripts for cartoons and doing appointments and parties whenever I could.
One thing I always believed in, was finding out as much as I could about what I was doing. I went to all the meetings and events. To tell you the truth, I really enjoyed it. Everyone was so incredibly positive and supportive. I worked for many of the prizes, and was always accountable to my leaders. The fact that I did that put me on the radar screen for leadership. Not long after my husband passed away, I made the decision to move up to a leadership position. Shortly there after, I achieved my goal and earned some very cool prizes along the way
But . . . just like everyone else, I made many mistakes. It's part of the learning process. The difference between someone who becomes successful in direct sales and one who does not is the ability to bounce back after a disappointment. One of the most valuable things that I've learned from my experiences is how much I've grown as a person from the journey itself.
If you ask a leader who is in the top 1% of a direct sales organization what they valued most in their career, it would not be all the money, trips and prizes. It would be how they've changed as a person. I've listened to women who have come from literally nothing or some pretty awful situations, completely change their lives for the better. If they can do it, so can anyone else who is willing to do the work.
I hope that you too learn from your mistakes, realize that you are unique and valuable, and enjoy your journey.
Warmly,
Rebecca
